Nightwave Digital Tech Tips!

  • There’s no light on my Nightwave at all.  Is it broken?

The Nightwave Digital status LED is located on the front of the camera above the lens.

If you do not have a light here, check your PoE injector setup.  The label on the injector box does not have intuitive language on it.  Check to see if your ethernet cables are in the correct ports on the PoE injector.

PoE OUT port – this is for the ethernet cable attached to the Nightwave

Data IN port -  this is for the ethernet cable going to the MFD.  (** via a PoE isolation coupler If you are connecting to a Garmin MFD). Review all MFD manuals for any safeguards they might require.

The PoE Injector needs to be powered from a stable DC supply between 9 and 36V using the included duplex electrical wire, or similar standard cable. When operational, the PoE Injector shows a Green LED for AF only (not AT) over the PoE OUT port.

  • Does a RED light mean it is broken?

No - RED status LED is good!  Solid Red means it has obtained an IP address and is ready to go!

  • The SIONYX icon on the main screen isn’t giving me any picture!

With our new model, we are providing a Tool-Panel icon on the main menu.

This is not where you will see the live video view.

Instead, this has some of the camera’s internal settings, such as:   Flipping the image (for ball-down mounting), finding the serial number, brightness, etc.

The live video view is seen by selecting the camera feed through the MFD’s Video Source settings. Each MFD will find the camera differently. Some will need to search to Add the Camera (e.g. SIMRAD needs to use the ONVIF scan feature), some MFDs will see the camera right away. Please reach out to us at Customer Support if you don’t see the camera as a choice in the Video Settings.

  • I can’t get the live view on my phone.

The Nightwave Digital firmware is in its initial release and the live video view is not available yet via the mobile app on a phone or tablet.  You will be able to use the mobile app to access and interact with the Tool-Panel.  But live video streaming to a mobile device will be made available via a Firmware update in the near future.

  • I hear a clicking sound when it is first turned on.   Is my camera broken?

No, all good!  The Nightwave does a systems check each time it is powered on.  Part of that check is to cycle the InfraRed cut-filter in and out to make sure the mechanism is performing correctly.  It is normal to hear a “click-click” every time the camera power cycles.

You can also trigger IR cut-filter cycling by:

  • Changing the amount of light entering the camera (holding your hand over the lens in the day, shining a light into the lens at night)
  • Switching IR cut-filter mode in the Tool-Panel from the Default of Auto, to ON or OFF

  • My housing is only attached with 3 screws.  Are they missing/ do I need to order more?

No, all good!  Since we know you have to remove the clamshell housing to mount the Nightwave Digital, we only installed 3 of the 6 housing screws to keep it in place during shipping.  Please remove these 3, and you will find 6 new ones included in the box to completely secure the housing after install mounting has been completed.

  • I need to install longer data cables

Either of the Nightwave Digital data cables can be replaced with standard Ethernet cable (Cat 5e or better), of up to 100M in length.  Any exposed cables should be selected for UV resistant sheathing.

New cable can be run by paying attention to the installation order described in the Nightwave Digital Installation Guide. This includes fitting the marine-grade boot at the end of the cable underneath the camera.
Cables should then be terminated with standard RJ45 plugs following the T568B wiring standard:
